Formerly the Hume & Hovell Cricket Ground, The Village Green & Pavilion is a cricket ground and accommodation destination in the rolling hills of the Strath Valley. Just 85km north of Melbourne, we offer a green oasis in English county-style: an architect-designed pavilion overlooking a beautifully maintained cricket ground. The Pavilion’s adjoining B&B is cosily appointed and the separate bunkhouse is a perfect base for group holidays.
Our trip to the Village Green and Pavilion bunk house was a very nice way to spend our weekend. The surroundings were magnificent and the view from the bunk house was unlike any other. All amenities were as described and the fireplace heated the whole bunkhouse perfectly. John was a great host and was very helpful, going out of his way to jump start one of our cars when it wouldn’t start! Thanks John and Ros!

John and Ros made us feel welcome at the very beautiful Village Green. The stay was exactly what we were looking for and fit the description provided by John and Ros. Everything was clean and comfortable and the grounds are amazing. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great activities filled trip just outside of Melbourne.
We had such a great experience staying with John and Ros at the Village Green. From the moment we arrived we were treated to exceptional hospitality. The bunkhouse was much more than a bunkhouse with the pot belly fire, open lounge/dining kitchen area providing a huge family environment. The cricket ground was in excellent condition, even if our skills didn’t match those of the ground keeper. On Saturday night John had prepared a large campfire for our group to sit around, catch-up, reminisce and enjoy. The feedback form everyone within our group has had a common theme……..”Best Weekend Ever”. John and Ros we can’t thank you enough, wishing you all the best for the future. Thanks, Pete.
Thanks John and Ros for a great 3 days. We felt like we belonged right from the start with the quick cricket tour. It was great to have a group as large as ours under the same roof. (16) The wood heater was amazing. Loved the mountain climb, a bit of effort but even the 4 year old made it The Landcare grudge cricket match was a bonus. We enjoyed the few games we had on ground. Have some great family photos to take to Europe for the year.
The hosts, Ros & John were very welcoming. They accommodated our family at late notice even with some delays caused by Airbnb processing. We really enjoyed our stay at the Pavilion and it was a wonderful break from the city. Peaceful mornings and fabulous scenery of the rolling hills. My son was delighted to have met and patted Tom (resident horse), which was a real bonus. He also got to see wildlife at night: a wombat and many Kangaroos. Warning: drive very slow on local roads at night or avoid altogether if you are not familiar with the Australian countryside. Ros gave us some local tourist advice, which made our time in the area more valuable. We had dinner at a pub in Broadford and lunch in Yea. Altogether a very memorable trip.
The house was fantastic and very well layed out. John and Row were very accommodating and lay back. The stay was memorable, we had a lovely scenery (so quiet with a perfect weather), a beautiful, light and comfortable house with a great company. The pavillon itself was beautiful , shame we didn’t have time to have a look around but it would seem to be a perfect place for wedding The downside is that I came accross few huntsmans but at least it was a proof that we were out of the city , in our own space. I would recommend this place to everyone!
Our family of 17 people spent the weekend at The Village Green to celebrate my 65 birthday. John & Ros were very friendly and helpful in answering my questions prior to our arrival and they were there to welcome us when we arrived. We used the B & B section which was quite adequate and comfortable with enjoyable breakfast. The family used the bunkhouse and found it to be very well equipped with full kitchen & all utensils, BBQ, large dining room and table. The children had a wonderful time playing cricket and footy on the oval, and thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the premises and explanation of the amazing collection of cricket memorabilia. The area was picturesque and peaceful. We drove to Yea and had a family bike ride along the well maintained bike track and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. A bonus was the fact that Australian Test player, Chris Rogers, is the son of John & Ros!
We had a fantastic relaxing time. Would highly recommend staying here again. People are fantastic and so lovely.
We organised a weekend to Strath Creek, where we had most guests arrive on Saturday to play a game of cricket and enjoy the surrounds and picnic areas. From the moment we arrived to the time we departed, our host was fantastic. Our host went to great lengths to make us feel very special. The casual cricket game was a massive hit with everyone from the age of 36 to 68, having what they described as “a day they will never forget”. Again, we owe it, not only to the amazing back drop and attention to detail (design of cricket ground down to the history of the roses) but too our host, who was an extraordinary person.
