The Village Green and Pavilion

We’re 85km north of Melbourne (just over an hour’s comfortable drive) and en route to the snow at Mt Buller and fishing at Lake Eildon. The Yea/Mansfield/Alexandra area of the magical Upper Goulburn River Valley is bursting with new vineyards, resorts and art and craft studios.

On its southern edge, the Village Green in the Strath Valley is a green oasis in English county-style – an architect-designed, award-winning pavilion overlooking a beautifully maintained cricket ground.

The Pavilion’s adjoining B&B  is cosily appointed, and the separate bunkhouse is perfect base for cyclists, campers, even skiers. Come to play or watch, or simply go for a wander. For just the two of you, there’s the B&B. Want to bring the tribe? We’ve got a 24-sleeper bunkhouse – ideal for group and multi-family holidays.

Ros & John Rogers at the Village Green and PavilionWe are John and Ros Rogers

Cricket has always been a big part of our lives. John has been a state player and selector; he’s spent 2 years working for Richie Benaud’s media company; served more than 5 years as the CEO of the WACA; been a Club president and coach; and our son, Chris Rogers, plays for Victoria, and more recently, as a Test player for Australia.

Our home was in Perth for over 30 years although originally we’re from Sydney. Soon after retiring, we got ourselves a caravan and began a 12-month odyssey around all of Australia. We caught up with friends all over. Our home in Perth had long been a magnet for our eastern states friends and family, and cherishing these friendships, as well as making new ones, has been a driving force in our lives.

When we stumbled across this haven in Strath Creek, its romance captured us immediately. It seemed perfect for us. A chance to be immersed in a world of cricket; a place we could make available to others for their enjoyment.

As of 2013, we are proud to be the new owners of The Village Green and Pavilion. We look forward to sharing it with you.
